Lloyd Mangrum was an accomplished American professional golfer, active primarily from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. Born on December 6, 1921, in Longview, Texas, he became a prominent figure in the sport following his military service during World War II. Mangrum won 36 professional tournaments, including three major championships: the 1940 U.S. Open, the 1948 Masters, and the 1952 PGA Championship. He was also a key member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 1953, contributing to the team's victory. Known for his distinctive golf swing and competitive spirit, Mangrum's legacy is celebrated in the golfing community, and he remains an influential figure in the history of the sport. He passed away on April 14, 2003.
