Description: Flower Drum Song is a 1961 American musical film directed by Henry Koster, adapted from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical of the same name, which was based on the 1957 novel by Chinese-American author C.Y. Lee. The film stars Nancy Kwan as Linda Low, a nightclub singer in San Francisco's Chinatown; James Shigeta as Wang Ta, a young man torn between his Chinese heritage and American culture; and Miyoshi Umeki as Mei Li, a young woman who arrives from Hong Kong with the intention of marrying a wealthy nightclub owner, unaware of his involvement with one of his singers. The film features memorable song-and-dance numbers that showcase the contrast between Mei Li's traditional family and her growing fascination with American culture. It was nominated for five Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
