Description: In 1966, Pauline Cox attends a village cricket match in Charthurst Green, Kent, where her boyfriend, Mike Robins, is playing. Bored, she wanders to the local railway halt and meets the eccentric stationmaster, who entertains her with tea. She later encounters his assistant, Ewen, who disturbs her by killing a rabbit in her presence. As she returns to the match, Ewen confronts her in an apple orchard, leading to a violent assault that results in her death. The stationmaster discovers Ewen with Pauline's body and helps him bury it in the orchard. The next day, the body is discovered, and Ewen's breakdown leads to his arrest. Years later, the stationmaster, having disavowed Ewen, encourages the friendship of another village youth.
