Description:
"The Time That Remains" is a 2009 semi-biographical drama directed by Elia Suleiman, depicting Palestinian life from 1948 to the present through the experiences of his family. The film is divided into four episodes, portraying the filmmaker's father as a resistance fighter in 1948, the family's struggles under Israeli military rule in the 1960s, and Elia's own experiences as an adolescent and adult. Utilizing a comedic and surreal style, it highlights the daily life, absurdities, and humiliations of Palestinians living as a minority in their own homeland. The film was selected for the official competition at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. In November 2009, it won the Jury Grand Prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and the Critics Prize at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival.
