The film follows Frankie Keefe, a Havana bar girl entangled with a tough protector, who finds herself falling for a young sailor named Dan Keefe. The narrative is inspired by the ballad "Frankie and Johnny." The film features a supporting cast that includes James Gleason, Ricardo Cortez, Thelma Todd, and Franklin Pangborn. Notably, at least one copy of "Her Man" is preserved at the Library of Congress, and the original camera negative has been restored at 4K resolution by Sony Pictures Entertainment, in partnership with the Film Foundation and RT Features.
