After we ran that story, we started getting calls

Alaska was the last of the Wild West. You know?

All I wanted to do is build my business up enough

All kinds of military equipment.

All of a sudden, all roads led to John Hull.

All of that is so fragile.

All of these are crimes that law enforcement officials

All of this stuff pertains to Gary,

All of us were smoking dope. And he would say to me, "Ed,

All the footage, all the archives.

All the people we thought were our friends,

All these files, all these boxes and boxes of stuff, I mean,

All those feelings I stuffed from when I was six,

All white. TV screens so you could see who was outside.

Allegedly were trying to sell about a pound of cocaine

Allied with the Soviet Union, is a permanent threat to us all.

An individual farmer can't make a living on the land anymore.

An invisible, lawless empire?

An outward feeling of what was going on in me

And a comb, and a pillow. That was it. Pillow.

And a White House in public disarray.

And actually all we have is each other and the family.

And advisors of the National Security Council

And all of a sudden, Washington wants to talk to them too.

And all the dots connected.

And all the drugs and runs the whole country?

And becoming a felon, and then eventually

And bring coke back from Costa Rica.

And brought the photographs back to me.

And called out my name.

And choice of Arkansas.

And come in." Because we were nudists.

And crop dusting was the only aviation place

And descend into the yard. Me and Terry jump aboard,

And didn't have to do it around the family or whatever.

And do whatever I got to do to get it together

And drop cold beer to ‘em. (LAUGHS)

And even necessary.

And fasting, and I found a place that was full of fruit,

And flown under their noses and made millions of dollars.

And for John Kerry.

And for Ronald Reagan, the Contra cause

And from that point on, my life changed.

And from that point, I flew with Luke.

And from that, evolved into smuggling weed.

And Gary ran under and hid under the porch.

And get a new one out,

And get to my airplane...

And give him everything I could to substantiate it.

And go to prison, you know? I was going to be taken

And God, it's beautiful there, it looks like the Alps.

And got in the plane took off.

And grabbed him, and just beat the daylights out of him.

And growing a few plants.

And had another child at this time.

And had, like, little pink curlers in her hair,

And had, like, the pink nightgown on.

And he asked me if I would... help him out.

And he brought him some food, said, “You come out,

And he called me by my name, my real name.

And he could never pull the yoke back very far

And he drowned.”

And he gave my mom a check, she got in the car,

And he goes, “Hey, we're gonna go see your great grandma.”

And he grabbed us, and he's like... (CACKLES)

And he had an atrium, you know, full of tropical flowers,

And he had made millions and millions and millions of dollars.

And he had the coke there and...

And he offered up more and more specificity.

And he parks the car.

And he pulled up in a jet airplane.

And he put his hand out. I shook his hand.

And he said, "Oh, no, no, no. Everything will be okay."

And he said, "You're gonna work for us from now on."

And he said, “No, I'm gonna have public hearings.

And he says, "I'm from the dog star, Sirius."

And he told them that they were a piece of steel.

And he took me to Texarkana.

And he totally believed in what he was doing, that,

And he very definitely knew about Sally and Claudia.

And he was disappointed I had gotten busted.

And he was like...

And he was, you know, single.

And he wouldn't do it.

And he'd fill up the whole front seat. (LAUGHS)

And held incommunicado. Brazenly turning around,

And his family, his son, his daughter or whatever,

And his involvement down there.

And his wife gave me his birth certificate.

And his wife, they never knew the truth.

And how did they end up working for the U.S. Government?

And how to evade a radar.

And I admit that I'm a coward.

And I can't push the goddamn pedals.

And I changed schools from Henderson

And I couldn't get it all in there,

And I did pretty good for years.

And I did.

And I didn't have responsibility to anybody,

And I didn't want to use Tackett because I didn't feel like I was a Tackett.

And I don't know who picked me up...

And I drove off.

And I empty my pockets, and I had a cube of hash,

And I got in a pickup truck with my friend.

And I got in the car with him, and I passed out.

And I guess employees said that...

And I had everything going.

And I had had enough.

And I had to go get drug tested, psychological evaluation.

And I hollered over to George, said, “George!” He says, “What”"

And I just looked over there and put my hand out

And I just suddenly realized...

And I just was able to just tell him, like, “I love you,

And I knew it and nobody else knew it.

And I know they can't see down on the water, like I get on the water.

And I looked at my mom and was like, "Mom!"

And I looked back, and I had 2,000 pounds of guns and shit on it, right?

And I looked over at the newspaper stand.

And I lost it.

And I love him dearly.

And I love my dad, don't get me wrong,

And I never liked “Betzner.”

And I never talked to him again.

And I remember just like, looking at the jailer,

And I remember...

And I said, "Hey, man, what the fuck?

And I said, "Well, yeah, I think I do." (CHUCKLES)

And I said, “Is it true?”

And I saw down the highway, they got pulled over.

And I saw the pipeline as my opportunity.

And I see a marshal out there behind a car,

And I should be locked away, or, you know, exterminated.

And I started preparing to leave.

And I think he kinda died in Florida.

And I told him that he could have the helicopter

And I took about a half a million bucks and moved up to Alaska.

And I warned him.

And I was a fugitive, and I had five different IDs.

And I was gonna take George with me.

And I was in a trance, pretty much,

And I was in the hole, and George was in the hole,

And I was like, "I'm gonna be okay."

And I was like, “He was dead my whole life."

And I was like...

And I was very pregnant.

And I was, like, giving him and Mom a minute

And I went back to Arkansas, awaiting the trial.

And I went to Alaska to bid on a pipeline reclamation.

And I would tell them the same answer,

And I wrote this drug crazed suicide note.

And I'd been in prison for about a year before I ran into him.

And I'm just like, freaking out. I was... vicious, it was like,

And I'm like, "Wow, he's alive."

And I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

And I'm not in it." (LAUGHS)

And I've never failed to get one out yet.

And I've never failed to get one out yet.

And if he had that in his heart, then he could have, like,

And if I could just get across that damn fence

And if that cocaine had just belonged to this drug dealer,

And it was hard to believe that it was somebody you knew.

And it was incredible. How would someone

And it wasn't a big town. I mean, a town of 1400.

And it'd go up, and put it down.

And it's coming from the direction

And it's flat land all the way to the sea.

And it's gonna be a wonderful life."

And just taxi up to that hangar, no problem.

And just tripping on mushrooms,

And just trust us that it's all gonna be okay.

And just when I had enough air speed, I sucked it back...

And knew something about the Contras.

And let me just sit back in the back.

And like pushed the gun out of the way

And live there for years and years.

And lo and behold, there's Gary Betzner,

And looking forward to the future and all that kinda stuff, and...

And maybe, because of that, he did not get a good deal.

And Miami New York record holder, George Morales.

And Mom went to therapy.

And my arm would go up and I'd put it down,

And my Aunt Lois came over. And I was like, “What?”

And my dad hands me carrot juice.

And my health is somewhat impaired,

And my whole family went down to Sheridan, Arkansas,

And none of our dads were secret agents.

And nothing on the outside is gonna be here forever.

And now you fucked them all up, and they got to start all over

And putting together pieces so there'd be a coherent narrative.

And Sara Lee got upset, 'cause she was upset.

And sat down in a chair. Instead of locking me up,

And sat us and were looked at seriously.

And she agreed with me. That was our best shot.

And she left me with a toothbrush,

And she walked out there, and she says, with her hands on her hips,

And she wanted to see him. So, we went down

And she was fucked up about it.

And she was to be there every month at a specific time.

And she would accept the collect call,

And smoking weed and hanging out and living every day.

And so I called him up, and he told me

And so I had a pretty good thing going.

And so I name myself Harmony. Lucas Noel Harmony.

And so I think journalists were extremely curious

And so I'd go up and I'd steal fruit at night.

And so it's difficult to make a living doing that anymore.

And so much cocaine was going through,

And so they left to go to the hotel.

And so was she.

And so we made our plans.

And so we started investigating.

And so we were asking ourselves, "What was the connection?"

And so we'd make two million dollars on a trip. (CHUCKLES)

And so when you start being really honest with yourself,

And so, I made arrangements to talk to him.

And so, they started thinking, "Well, maybe we should give them

And some clothes

And spending it on something you're not supposed to spend it on.

And stacked them up front,

And start a new life there and...

And start going north on Highway 1.

And stuff like that down to the Contras.

And stuff went everywhere.

And talk to people. It's another thing

And ten hits of acid. And I got it from him

And that he's not gonna kowtow to their laws.

And that no one cares to stop it.

And that place used to scare the shit out of me when I was kid. Like...

And that set of questions was a set of questions

And that something was weapons, missiles.

And that was okay.

And that's really hard, dangerous work. I mean, hard,

And that's the experience of knowledge of the self...

And the jailer went and just undid his arms.

And then George decided he didn't want to go.

And then I hired a copilot.

And then I went to prison for 12 years.

And then just kinda walk and stop in front of me.

And then me being told

And then my brother had his plane crash...

And then my brother in law, Travis Leander Mathews,

And then Shawn Masters would get up and stand on their stomach.

And then the longer it was, the less they would come.

And then they'll tell you what you're supposed to do."

And then we can go forward and get people to say,

And then we flew somewhere else with different clothes on.

And then we got one trip a week that was four million.

And then you find out about a third hole...

And there's a few that stayed there, and God love 'em,

And there's a hole you're gonna go in.

And these guys were sitting next to us,

And these people in Iran wanted something very specific

And they are not willing to wait much longer.

And they got the master suite,

And they just kept asking questions.

And they looked for my body for about two weeks.

And they said, “Okay, we're gonna go get your dad now.”

And they took me into this room,

And they were gonna start carrying powder,

And they were good at it.

And they'll stick around and face the music.

And they're having anal sex, and Lucas goes,

And things changed when I appeared.

And things wouldn't be as we had "anticipated."

And this guy comes down.

And this guy's wife is riding Lucas

And this is the end of it. I'm gone."

And up through Biscoe...

And very dramatic, always very dramatic.

And wanted to take a picture of me and Polly.

And was doing anything he could to help out the effort

And we all survive by... what our actions are.

And we didn't tell her. It was a big

And we get in his car, and we're driving out

And we had a good conversation

And we had a real good marriage, and we were happy,

And we had breakfast served, and I had eggs Benedict

And we need to stop them.

And we said goodbye.

And we struck up a friendly bond.

And we were in this El Camino.

And we were talking back and forth,

And we'd go to Wendy's like two or three days a week.

And we'd make plans

And we'd smoke cigarettes over there.

And we'll live happily ever after.

And we'll stick it in their ass!”

And we're just thinking of names that we're gonna have.

And we're livin' there for a while...

And went back to the airport.

And whaled him on it, and the guy turned on him,

And what else are they doing?

And what it means to be a dad, and what the ramifications

And what was loaded into that flight?

And what was the infrastructure of it?”

And when he would come around, he'd bring presents.

And when I looked in his eyes...

And whoever I had in my pocket, that's who I was.

And with that particular airplane,

And you assume no one's gonna catch you.

And you can tell before he turns around

And you go up, and...

And you're on your way.

And your mind has to switch gears.

And, I was like...

And, to this very day, he will never admit that he did it.

And, uh, the best cure in the world for it is cocaine.

And, uh, we were married

And, uh, we'd go to see him.
