At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Phelps won four gold and two silver medals. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he won five gold medals and one silver. Phelps is the long course world record holder in the men's 400-meter individual medley.

When I said I wanted to win 8 gold medal, this basically half the people in the swimming world thought I was absolutely crazy and nobody could ever do something like that.
